We use a Bee Behavior chart in Kindergarten. All students start their day on the green bee. They can move up to the blue bee if a staff member ‘catches them being good’. If students forget a rule students will move their Bee to the orange or red bees as below. Students will use a Bee folder to color how each day went. Please initial each night and return.

 1st Verbal reminder of skill

Ex. Remember to wait your turn

2nd Practice skill during 5 minutes of recess (Orange Bee)

Ex. Talk with them about what they could do next time instead of repeat the behavior.

3rd Practice skill during whole recess and call/write note to parent (Red Bee)

4th Practice skill during all recesses for the day and conference with parent and Mr. Ludens. (Red Bee)

Severe behavior (swearing, hitting): Visit to the office and call home (Red Bee)

BEE Punch Card System

To promote positive behavior, students have a BEE punch card. Each day that the student stays on a green or blue bee they earn a punch.  Once their card is filled they will receive a prize from the prize box.

Grading System

The South Dakota Department of Education has developed and adopted standards in all academic content areas. Standards are identified for each grade level and each year builds upon the next. Standards identify what students are expected to know and be able to do at each grade level.  At the end of each quarter, you will receive a Standard Based Report Card on how your child is progressing towards mastering the specific standards at the Kindergarten grade level.  Your child will receive one of the four performance levels:

Below Basic, Basic, Proficient and Advanced

*You and your child should have the goal of being proficient (performing at grade level) by the end of the year.

Advanced: A student performing at the advanced level exceeds grade performance.

Proficient: A student performing at the proficient level meets grade level expectations.

Basic: A student performing at the basic level has not yet met grade level expectations. The student may be able to perform, some, but not all of the grade level skills.

Below Basic: A student performing at the below basic level is performing significantly below

grade level expectations and has not demonstrated basic level performance.
You will soon realize that the best part about the new Standards Based Report Card is that you will have access to information that will allow you to specifically target areas of need in order to best help your child!
